Folders answer "where does this live?" These three tools answer "which files matter right now?" — and they work across folders.
Tags
Tags are labels you create and apply to any file or folder. A file can carry several. Because tags cut across your folder structure, they solve the problem folders cannot: the invoice that belongs equally under 2026, Taxes, and Client work.
- Create a tag, then assign it to files.
- Filter your library to a tag to see everything carrying it.
- Rename a tag and every file using it updates.
- Deleting a tag removes the label only — never the files.
Favorites
Starring a file adds it to Starred. This is a personal shortlist with no structure to maintain — good for the handful of files in active use this week. Unstar them when the week is over.
Pinned files
Pinning puts a file at the top of your view for immediate access, and pinned items can be reordered so the most important sits first. Pins are for the two or three files you open every day, not for a backlog.
Choosing between them
- Tags — durable categories, many files, revisited over months.
- Favorites — a shortlist for the current stretch of work.
- Pins — permanent quick access to a very small number of files.
All three are private to you. None of them affect what other people see in a shared file, and none of them move or copy anything.
