Vault: password-protected storage inside Crux Cloud

The Vault is a separate area of Crux Cloud for files you do not want surfacing in day-to-day browsing — identity documents, financial records, anything you would rather not have appear in a search result while screen sharing.

How it behaves differently

  • It is locked by default. You must unlock it before its contents are visible at all.
  • Vault files are never indexed — they do not appear in Cloud search, the photo library, or AI search results.
  • They are excluded from the normal file browser entirely.

Unlocking

Open Vault and enter your account password. That starts a time-limited vault session. When the session expires the Vault locks itself again and you will be asked for your password next time — including if you leave the page open and come back later.

Adding and removing files

With the Vault unlocked, drag files in to upload them directly, or move existing Cloud files into it. Removing a file from the Vault returns it to your normal Cloud storage, where it becomes searchable again.

Storage

Vault files count against the same 25 GB quota as everything else. The Vault is about visibility and access, not extra space.

Sensible use

  • The Vault protects against casual exposure — someone glancing at your screen, an unexpected search result. Treat your account password and 2FA as the real security boundary.
  • Turn on two-factor authentication if you keep anything meaningful in the Vault. Vault access follows from account access.
  • Lock your Vault before handing your laptop to anyone, rather than relying on the session to expire.
