Uploading files: supported types and size limits

Select the + button in the composer to attach files. You can add them from your Device or from Crux Cloud if you already have them saved there.

Size limits

  • Free — up to 25 MB per file.
  • CruxAI+ — up to 100 MB per file.

What you can upload

  • Images — JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP, HEIC/HEIF, SVG, BMP, TIFF, ICO.
  • Documents — PDF, Word (.doc, .docx), PowerPoint (.ppt, .pptx), OpenDocument (.odt, .odp), RTF, plain text, Markdown.
  • Spreadsheets and data — Excel (.xls, .xlsx), OpenDocument (.ods), CSV, TSV, JSON, XML, YAML, TOML.
  • Code — Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, PHP, Java, C, C++, C#, Go, Rust, Swift, Kotlin, Ruby, Perl, Lua, SQL, shell scripts, HTML, CSS, and log files.
  • Archives — ZIP, TAR, GZIP, 7z, RAR, BZ2.
  • Audio — MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG, FLAC, AAC, WebM.
  • Video — MP4, MOV, M4V, WebM, AVI, MPEG.

If an upload is rejected

  • Too large — check the limit for your plan above. Splitting a large PDF or zipping a folder of text files usually solves it.
  • Unsupported type — the error names both the detected type and the type your device declared. Renaming a file does not change what it actually is; convert it to a listed format instead.
  • Files with unusual extensions are matched by their real content first, so a correctly-formatted file with a wrong extension normally still works.

Attaching from Crux Cloud

Choosing Crux Cloud in the attach menu opens a picker for files already in your Crux Cloud storage — no need to download them first. You can also save files CruxAI creates straight back to Crux Cloud with Save to Crux Cloud.
