A Space has two kinds of conversation, and the difference in visibility is deliberate.
Channels
Channels are group conversations visible to the Space. Use them for anything the group might need later — decisions, questions, coordination. Create a channel per topic rather than running everything through one, and name them so their purpose is obvious.
Creating channels requires the create chat channels permission; sending messages requires send chat messages.
Direct messages
A direct message is between two people and visible only to them. Direct messages are excluded from Space search and are never given to the workspace assistant.
The practical consequence: anything decided in a DM is invisible to everyone else and unfindable later. Decisions belong in a channel, a note, or a task.
Chat safety
Spaces shows a safety notice the first time you open a direct conversation. Messages may be monitored where necessary, limited to protecting users and enforcing Crux safety rules. The guidance is worth repeating:
- Keep secrets private. Never share passwords, recovery codes, or financial information in chat — with anyone, however well you know them.
- Check unexpected links. Confirm who sent a link before opening or downloading anything, especially if it arrived out of the blue.
- Report concerning messages rather than handling them alone.
Reporting a message
Open the message menu and choose to submit a safety report. Pick a reason — spam or scam, harassment or bullying, threats or unsafe behavior, privacy or personal information, or something else — and add context if it helps.
Your report is private. It is not shown to the sender or to other Space members.
If you are being pressured for money, passwords, or personal information, that is worth reporting even when you are unsure. Reports are reviewed; unnecessary ones cost nothing.
